Creativity Preparedness

I was busy on Friday evening creating backgrounds for Saturday's creative efforts. The first is a collage of scrapbook paper on a 12 x 12 piece of wood. The next is acrylics and charcoal on a 11 x 14 canvas "a la" "Taking Flight". On the last piece above I used gel to attach a sheet of tissue paper to an 11 x 14 canvas.

Then I decided to repurpose some additional pages from the latest phone book! I also repurposed some plastic bags by placing 8 layers between 2 pieces of paper and ironing until they melted together as seen in the January / Februaty edition of "Cloth Paper, Scissors" magazine. Not sure what that is going to turn out to be.

Long-legged Girls with Skinny Legs and Little Heads

I invited my sister Penny to take a look at my blog. She is going to wish she did! The title of this post is from an Alvin Ailey quote. In her younger years, my sister was kinda gangly - I thought it fit.

"I'm attracted to long-legged girls with
skinny legs and little heads."
--Alvin Ailey
Still unfinished, the focus of today's multi-media project includes a vintage picture of my sister, Penny (nickname). I rescued the picture from a group photo taken of Penny's 5th grade class. Imagine...that expression is still on every picture that was distributed to Mr. Thompson's 1962 class (remember when school pictures were free). My Mom always kept her "greased up" and well dressed...but that expression - PRICELESS!

I started out by repurposing some wallpaper as background that Sherry Goodloe from "Got Art" repurposed as package wrap when I purchased an item from her Etsy Shop "Got Art". That was cool, but I had a heck of a time trying to get it to stay stuck to the canvas.

I didn't use any molding paste on this piece...I'm already sorry. Is it too late?

I will update you on my paper clay adventure and tell you more about this project tomorrow! Don't forget to join in the One World ~ One Heart fun!

Brief Paper Clay Adventure

While I am still having a wonderful time with Kelly Rae's "Taking Flight", I have decided to go on a brief" paperclay" adventure. I will also get to try out my battery-operated "Craft Multi-Tool" I picked up last week at Hobby Lobby ($5.99). The torn paper is from a phone book...I am on a mission to repurpose all the trees the companies are killing to make these books people don't use!

I've never worked with paperclay before...I think it will be fun!

Don't forget to put your name in the hat for my "One World~ One Heart" giveaway...click here to go directly to the OWOH post.

The Birds Were Without Words!

Well...I think that I have finished my first real "Taking Flight" project. I am going to let it marinate for a while and take another look at it later. Maybe I will add some more hair. I am LOVING my new book, "Taking Flight" by Kelly Rae Roberts! Thank you Sherry from Got Art!

I have consulted my brother, Kurt, who does professional framing about the appropriate backing and hanging mechanism...he's going to hook me up! My project is almost ready to go!

I also consulted Kurt about suggested pricing for my original piece of art...what can I say, he loves me. I promise, this piece will not be priced anywhere near his lofty aspirations...he loves me.

You may recall in an earlier post I was concerned because I had somehow torn a small piece of paper from the piece. Now I could have stopped and thrown the project away (who am I kidding multi-media artists don't throw anything away), but instead I decided to "be creative". As a result, that little torn piece of paper became a bird (molding paste) and inspiration for the name of the piece, "the birds were without words". Here's is a closer look...well an attempt at a closer look. I promise to work on my camera skills!

Constructive Use of Freedom...Stay Tuned

What a great time to be alive! We are about to inaugurate a Leader who understands what leadership means...what responsibility means…what accountability means. A Leader who will make constructive use of the privilege of freedom afforded us in the United States of America that until now has been squandered by so many.

Finally, the Moment has met the Man and his name is Mr. President.
America this is YOUR moment !

What Happens to a Dream Deferred?

A well-known poem by Langston Hughes asks...we finally know the answer... Tomorrow we will witness possibly the greatest moment in American history as we inaugurate the first African American President, Barack Obama. Today, however, we celebrate the life and legacy one of the great men of faith who through his perserverance and determination gave equality a voice, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. How appropriate!!!

What happens to a "dream deferred"? It has exploded and injected an apathetic nation with Hope!

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands
in moments of comfort and convenience,
but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. "

- - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

This is FUN!!!

I don't know how I damaged my project. Somehow I pulled a piece of the paper off. Guess I will have to get creative. Below is the whole piece still in early stages. I got brave and added some molding paste...I like the result.

Lot's more work to do!

Hmmm...GOLDEN Glazes

Well...here is a picture of the GOLDEN glazes I purchased from the Stamp Convention. I will be using one of them in my next project "Taking Flight" (finally)!

Happy Birthday Baby!

On January 3rd 1983 (26 years ago) at about 8:30 in the evening, I was being admitted to the maternity ward at Daniel Freeman Hospital in Inglewood, CA.. Aaron Michael , my second son, my baby, arrived just 35 minutes later. He weighed 8 pounds exactly and was 22 1/2 inches long. Aaron is 26 today and serving a 4-year term in the United States Air Force stationed in Dover, DE. He was married this year to Amanda Noel, a real sweet heart, on August 12th. It is still strange not to be with him on his birthday. My baby is grown. I thank God for both of my sons. Happy Birthday Baby! Here is a picture of Aaron and his new wife.

Yippee! Yippee! Yippee!

This is an exciting day! I received my first comments from someone besides my sister-in-law-friend (which I appreciated). Without her I would have felt pretty "whatever that personality defect that makes you talk to yourself"...oops, I think I already have that defect!

Sande of justbranches and Genie Sea of reality insanity, thank you for taking the time to leave a comment on my blog. You made my day!

Happy New Year! I have so many things to look forward to in the year! I am usually not one for resolutions...but I am making 2 this year; to get to a more healthy weight through diet and exercise (or whatever is PC for 2009) and keep in contact REGULARLY with the people that I love.

I am opening my Etsy shop Breath of Art on my birthday, January 11th (as recommended by my sister-in-law-friend). This is the first time that I have ever attempted to sell my creations...a nail-biter. The inset picture is a peek at my art dolls.

What do I wish for you for the New Year...to KNOW that you are loved!

Keep Bloggin' !
